It was back in 1781, during The American Revolution (!), when a handful of local families started a new church in West Newton. Wanting to love God and serve their neighbors, they asked, 'How can we create a place of community, compassion, and service?'
Fueled by baked beans, brown bread, turkey, and a deep faith and dogged determinism, the early founders of this church family created the special community we now 'Second Church.'
Through the last almost 250 years, the good people who have made this church their spiritual home have continued this transformational ministry to the local community and to the wider world.
After a generous financial gift in 1915, with the instruction to 'build a church like the Salisbury Cathedral in England,' our current facility strives to address the needs of our current Newton community.
Times have certainly changed through the years. Our small but mighty congregation is faithfully working away, planning for the next chapter of this church's incredible journey.
We invite you to join us as we continue to make God's love and justice real.
