The Spiritual Practice of Generosity is an essential element of the Christian faith. The earliest Christians - like 100 years after Jesus - began caring for the poor, the sick, widows, and orphans. These early Christians did the unthinkable by caring for all those society ignored, deemed worthless, and threw away. This is our DNA. Through time, in Europe and in the United States, churches set up orphanages, hospitals, and colleges (e.g. Harvard, Princeton, Yale). We did all this because Jesus talked about money and care for the marginalized more than just about anything else. Our giving is an act of faith.
Giving in a church is very different from donating to a charity. You can give $50. to the Red Cross to help with a disaster relief program. That's great. Totally worthy cause. Yet, in a church we discern together what to support and then we pool our money to make an impact greater than any one of us could do on our own. We also have more flexibility to direct funds to unique under the radar programs.
Second Church has always been a deeply generous church in the community, state, nation, and globally. 'We put our money where our hearts are.' This is why we usually give around $75,000. annually to area groups, causes, projects, and non-profits. The impact we have made in this are through the years is immeasurable.
Giving Online (through Breeze) is the quickest and easiest way to use a debit or credit card.
You may also mail a check to the address below or even drop it off in the office if you're in the area.
If you join us for worship on a Sunday, you can use the QR code in the bulletin to access Breeze with your phone. You can also place cash in the offering.
Every November, we encourage our regular folks to submit an Estimate of Giving for the upcoming year. This lets us know what your financial plan is to support the church. This type of pledging helps with our budgeting and forecasting so we can ensure the ministry goals we are aiming for are funded. See the additional page for information on 'Stewardship.'
